Last of the Seals
This book was nothing like I expected it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know I must have because I devoured the book. I was worried that it was going to be all about baseball. Instead, I was treated to two mysteries and a very sweet romance. The book takes place in 1957, when most men wore suits to work and chivalry was alive and well. The nostalgia in the book made it a fun read. Imagine be able to fill your gas tank for $5.00? The two mysteries were pretty good and well written. Sam is a great character. He is a war hero and a pitcher for the San Francisco Seals. As his career is coming to an end, he is looking forward to his future as a private investigator with his best friend. He also meets Amelia who throws him for a loop. I loved watching their romance blossom. He was such a gentleman. Amelia was a perfect match for him. I could see them working together in the PI business.
This is the first book I have read by Mr. Messel. The Last of the Seals is the first in a series. It looks like the next one comes out in 2013. I look forward to reading the further adventures of Sam and Amelia.
